With conferences occurring and summer approaching many of you want to know what you can do to support your child’s learning. The single most important thing a parent can do to insure the smoothest possible school experience in elementary school is to read to your child. Reading builds vocabulary, imagination, listening skills and basic knowledge.
It is also one of the most basic bonding experiences for parents and children. There is nothing more soothing and more nurturing than curling up with a book with your child. Use this experience to get nap or night time off to a smooth start. The ritual of reading before sleep can become a signal that calms both the child and you and becomes something you will both look forward to.
And it’s fun!
Add to your repertoire by checking books out of your neighborhood library. Become a summer regular both for checking books out and for the library’s story time.
